2nd FREE Movie Night
Wednesday, 18 June 2008 17:46

With the success of its first Free Downtown Movie Night, Oakland Main Street has scheduled its second Free Movie Night at the pocket park at Alder and Second Street’s on June 21st at dusk (approx. 9:15PM).

The movie for this showing will be “Calendar Girls” – The hit film of 2003, was based on the inspirational true story of 11 Yorkshire women, that typifies the down-to-earth but caring and humorous character of its’ people., who set out to raise money for the Leukemia Research fund, by posing nude for an alternative Women’s Institute Calendar. The illness of John Baker, husband of Rylstone Women’s Institute member Angela Baker, gave the women the inspiration, and it was in his name the calendar was produced. John, Assistant Yorkshire Dales National Park Officer, would doubtless be amazed and proud of his wife and her friends, who dared to add a new slant to their traditional calendar. Hoping to sell a few more copies than usual, these brave ladies were photographed carrying out these tasks minus their clothes! The now familiar sunflower logo was the inspiration of John’s daughter in-law. Noticing how many of his ‘get well’ cards featured this cheerful bloom, she gave seeds to family and friends and asked them to grow a sunflower for John.

The movie will be running in conjunction with the

Wild Women’s Weekend also being held that weekend.

So bring your family, popcorn, candy and a drink, your chairs or a blanket, some bug spray and enjoy a movie under the stars

just like the old drive in theaters.

Donations Accepted!

Will be cancelled if it rains!
